Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines has the look and feel of many real-time strategy games, but adds something that’s often missing from titles in the genre: characters you care about.Your task is to guide a six-man team of Allied saboteurs behind German lines during World War II. Your mission? To wreak havoc on Nazi defenses by knocking out key targets. What makes Commandos instantly enjoyable is its effort to develop characters. Click on a soldier, and he’ll give you a gruff-voiced (and often humorous) salute in his native accent - American, British, French, or Australian. Also, each soldier has specialized skills that further define his character, and your success depends on how well you coordinate those skills. Stealth is important. You’ll spend more time sneaking around than shooting, because rushing into a firefight will only make your troops instant casualties. Your soldiers can crouch, crawl, and run - and you’ll use these skills often. The fact that your team is so vastly outnumbered lends an appealing underdog element to the game.
